Playable, Unplayable, Playable, Unplayable. In short: I quit.
Now the sequel is out, for quite some time now, and what do I think of it at this very moment? I'm going back to Modern Warfare 2, and will think twice before opening Black Ops in my steam library again, after 500 hours of ups and downs.
To start, the optimization is absolutely dreadful. Treyarch has outdone themselves, they've done what I thought was impossible, by ruining the game engine, without bringing anything beneficial in. Last stand is still there, just under a new name(Second Chance), Until recently, Commando was a part of the game by default, and the new OP weapon is the AK74u with rapid fire.
Now instead of improving things, Treyarch decided to go ahead and make the engine as bad as they could, so that the game would freeze and stutter, especially in the multiplayer modes, which are unplayable(at least for snipers like me) right now. The maps are not very exciting, I rarely see any interesting places to climb, any good hiding spots, like the ones on Highrise in MW2, or Terminal.
The Singe Player portion of BO doesn't stutter half as much as the multiplayer, and is pretty enjoyable, with the classic scripted moments that Call of Duty offers, along with very intense gunfights. The story could use a little inspiration, but this isn't new to Call of Duty games.
All in all, Treyarch have failed to make a worthy successor to MW2. It's a sad thing to say, but it's not far from the truth, just a matter of opinion(and machine). I will be looking forward to Modern Warfare 3, and I will buy it, along with BF3, and will enjoy it far more than I enjoyed 500 hours of Black Ops.
