Multi-player treads on the shoulders of giants but is as addictive as ever Campaign is disappointing and disjoint
There is a lot of negativity about COD these days but that's because of the blatant money spinning that's coming off the back of it and the fact that the yearly updates are little-changed from one to another; in isolation the games are generally excellent.
HOWEVER..... Black Ops' campaign just didn't do it for me. I can't put my finger on why really, just one of those things. There were a few objectives that seemed a bit obscure and the Russian dude Reznov shouting "Mason" every 10 seconds on certain levels wanted to make me kill him (I hated him in WAW too!)
It just left me cold and it felt like a chore playing through parts of it.
Multiplayer is the typical COD experience and if you like that, this is great.... if you don't, you won't! It takes pretty much everything from MW2 and tweaks it slightly. No revolution but that's unrealistic to expect. Kill streak rewards are much less overbearing now too which is a good thing.
Graphics - Fast, smooth and detailed enough very good if not ground breaking.
Sound - Solid all round as you would expect
Overall - I have sunk plenty of online hours into this game simply because it's the current COD game - I really enjoy it but have marked it down for the campaign which is annoying and just too random
