It IS a worthwhile WWII shooter. It just doesn't deserve to be in the Call of Duty franchise

User Rating: 7.5 | Call of Duty: Finest Hour PS2
The good: play a Russian, American and British campaign. Various environments. Decent enemy A.I.
The bad: Horrible friendly A.I. Horrible grenade control. has slow reaction to death gameplay: Definately, Finest Hour has much worser game play than Call of Duty for the PC. Control of the weapons is pretty much the same, also allowing you to accurately aim with the L1 button. There are fewer weapons now ranging from the mp40 to the kar48. These two weapons is all enemies seem to be carrying and when you run out of ammo you will have no choice but to use these two weapons almost all the time. Perhaps the most irritating problem of all is the death animations of the enemies. When you kill an enemy, there is a 60% chance that they wont fall to the ground right away. Most of the time, they will put on this lame death animation which will have you wondering if the enemy is dead or not. So you will have no choice but to waste bullets on the same guy just to be sure that he's dead while there are 6 other enemies blazing you with bullets. Sounds bad??? It gets worse! Whenever you are in a narrow hallway or a small room with bad guys, you will want to use your grenades. Problem is, you cant charge the throw of the grenade. So if you press a button to throw it, it will fly full force around the room, bouncing of walls like a rubber ball, until it explodes. Yet another problem in Finest Hour is your allies. When ever there is a fire fight and you take cover, instead of your men taking cover, they will charge toward the enemy getting blazed by bullets until they are dead or you find an extra medkit and heal that person. Other than those hideous problems, gameplay in Finest Hour is pretty good. The framerate is pretty steady, and can get rough only when you are in a serious firefight or get within the blast radious of a grenade.

graphics: finest hour's graphics are definately up to date. Soldier modeling is very good as well as the modeling of the weapons. The intesity of the game is also decent from many firefights and planes bombing places to tanks blowing up buildings. . sound: Planes bombing buildings, firefights, eardrums popping from the blows of a grenade, good voice acting. Everything you would want from a WWII shooter.

Value: You will play on 3 boards. Each board as a russian, american, and british points of view. 2 boards have about 8 missions, while one board has 4. Each mission is pretty lengthy. Online play is included. Overall: With all these things said, if you are just looking for a cheap but fun WWII shooter, I recommend Finest Hour!
