While this game can't stand up to the original, it can still hold its ground.
Although the gameplay in Finest Hour is nearly identical to the original, these two games have different missions, characters and take place in different places throughout WW2. Like in the original, you play as British, American and Russian soldiers. The mission types are varied and include shooting galleries, rail shooting, and tank driving missions. Unlike the original, there is only about one checkpoint per mission, and the quick-save feature is taken out. Because of the lack of checkpoints, missions that take place later in the game are very difficult even on the default difficulty setting.
The graphics are good, but not great. The desert environments of North Africa and war torn cities of Europe look nice, but when a lot of dust is kicked up from an explosion, the frame-rate dips quite noticably. There are some things in the game that are quite noticeable as well. For instance, in one mission where you are in control of a Sherman tank and driving in third-person view, if you fire the machine gun the bullets will come from behind the turret and come out the front. Other things, like dramatic death animations where a dead German will be firing his S.M.G. as he drops to the ground and there is no muzzle flash stand out a lot.
The sound in the game is great. Your allies will yell things like, "FIGHT" or, "OPEN FIRE" while fire-fights take place and the Germans will speak
German too. The weapons all sound convincing and have a powerful sound and the in-game music definitly sets the mood.
If you are not able to experience Call of Duty for the PC, then by all means get Finest Hour.
