A good shooter based on WW2

User Rating: 8.6 | Call of Duty: Finest Hour PS2
Finest Hour is a good shooter that is based on WW2, and despite a few flaws, the great storyline still offers a great playing experience for gamers.

Gameplay: 8.4

The atmosphere in Finest Hour seriously put you deep into the war scene of World War 2, it makes you realise the tension and struggle between each and every soldiers and their sacrifices. You can expect to see many realistic scenes of explosions, war cries, gun shots and chaos running everywhere in the war scene, i have to say that Spark Unlimited has really done a great job in expressing the mood of the game.

In the single player campaign, you will be playing through many different characters throughout the whole game, starting from the Eastern Front as the russians, African campaign as the British and finally the western Front as the Americans. And the gameplay of Finest Hour both online/offline is quite solid, there are practically no lag when played online, even with a large number of soldiers on the screen, there are no framerate problems as well. The Controls are good and responsive, so it should be user friendly enough for the beginners to pick up.

There are also a large variety of historical weapons in Finest Hour, such as the MP40 submachine gun, M1 Garand, Kar98k, the Thompson, Gewehr 43 rifle, DP 28, the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) and even more. There is even a Panzershreck which you can use to destroy a tank. The good thing about the weapons is that they actually give you the different feel when you are using them, the recoil, firerates and so on. But on the other hand, the tossing of grenade is terrible, it doesn't really give you the feel of the distance at all when you are throwing it, it feels very 'Light'.

As for other negative issues in COD, there are some fustrating problems of lack of check points in the single player campaign, i can seriously tell you that some stages can be long and extremely tough (especially the M12 mission), the lack of check/save point make the matter even worse when you have to restart the whole mission all over again if you die, and this is going to fustrate many inexperienced players to no end.

There are three difficulty levels in Finest Hour for you to choose from, Easy, Normal and Hard. But from my playing experience, there seem to be 'Not much difference' between them, the Easy mode can get just as rough as the Normal or Hard.

Graphics: 8.6

The graphic in Finest Hour can be very good to admire, but on the other hand, it can be pretty bad as well depending on what stage you are playing, some stages can be pretty dark and impossible to explore, but unless if you are willing to switch off the light in your room to play the game, it will be much easier to see.

Sound: 9.3

You can truly experience all the noises of explosion from WW2, shouting from comrades, and the realistic sound effect that comes from the shooting of all the different guns that you use. Good job for this.

Value: 8.7

First of all, if you don't have a broadband and you don't play online, i suggest you to just rent the game first. The single player campaign can be pretty short and you will be able to finish it in no time. So there will be no replay value if you aren't playing online.

The online features of Finest Hour are rich although and there are many modes of play for you to choose from, which you can compete up against eight players online via Broadband so it should be able to keep you busy for quite some time.

Overall:

COD: Finest Hour is a fine game for a WW2 shooter. And i will suggest a rental at its best for non online gamers, but if you happen to be a WW2 shooter fan and you are playing online, by all means get this.
