One of the best things about "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" is the campaign. While it's not brilliant, this is easily the best story in a COD game since "Black Ops II". A sci-fi tale closer in tone to "Starship Troopers" than "Modern Warfare", the story is actually quite involving. The narrative is propelled by extensive cutscenes which feature awesome visuals, good acting and Ethan, the robot soldier that steals the show. The core gameplay isn't much different from previous entries, but the structure is more akin to "Mass Effect". As you complete missions, you are given the option to engage in side missions that are spread across the galaxy. They include space-based dogfighting segments that are somewhat enjoyable.
Sadly, piloting fighter jets and floating through space does not translate into the multiplayer modes. While the online experience is not bad, it's also just a repeat of what was featured in "Black Ops III". The "Rigs" are quite similar to the "Specialists" from that game, but they also include new customization options. You can also now craft special weapons by earning points for completing faction challenges. Maps borrow a bit from "Titanfall" with plenty of sections that require wall running. There are numerous modes to choose from in multiplayer, but none are new. "Zombies In Spaceland" fares much better with a whole new look and features. It's the first zombies map from Infinity Ward and they've done a pretty good job replicating what Treyarch did with their "Black Ops III" zombie maps. While it sticks to a familiar formula, both new and old fans should enjoy it.
Overall, "Infinite Warfare" is a solid game. It's not exactly innovative, but it's a definite improvement over "Ghosts". I liked the story and the new weapons and I thought the optional missions were far better than the Tower Defense levels in "Black Ops II". As I stated before, some of the visuals are quite awesome and Ethan will probably win over some of the naysayers. While "Black Ops III" is the better game, for long-time fans, there's enough here to make "Infinite Warfare" another must-own. I'd rank it with a 7.8 out of 10.
