Short single player and disappointing multiplayer.

User Rating: 5 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC
The single player, while fun and cinematic, is much too short. Then again, who really plays COD for the single player? Multiplayer is why gamers buy and play the COD series exhaustively; however, it is the multiplayer which is the most disappointing part of MW2. Small server size, lack of dedicated servers, high latency, lack of mods and host migration issues are not things that belong in a PC game. MW2 is by far the most disgraceful console-ification of a PC port to date. What makes the situation more sore is the fact that COD got its start on the PC.

Dedicated servers allow for communities to spring up, and provide a sort of home where gamers know they will find the experience they want with friends they enjoy playing with. Mods extend the life of games and customize the user experience, their exclusion is an obvious attempt to bolster DLC sales. Infinity Ward touts changes to the multiplayer experience as an improvement and streamlining of a dysfunctional system. They are wrong. Host advantage, small server capacities, and high latency are not improvements. The loss of communities and competitive play are definitely not improvements.

MW2 on the PC is a rent or borrow; anything but a buy.
