The second game in the Modern Warfare series leaves you wanting more but, wondering, "Where do they go now?".
CAMPAIGN
The campaign of Modern Warfare 2 (will be simply called MW2 from now on through this review) is the main reason why the game has received a 8.5 for me. The campaign is fun and is full of OMG moments that are so ridiculous they are amazing. The campaign puts you through the paces of Task Force 141 and the U.S. Army Rangers. Both sides tell the same story from a different perspective, Army Rangers from defending and the Task Force for attacking, and ultimately it is all about Task Force 141. It is also surprisingly short, only about 5 hours or so. As stated there are some amazing sequences through out the campaign, but it leaves you wondering that if to make a great story you must fill it with crazy ridiculous action sequences what is the next games story going to be like?
SPEC OPS
Spec Ops is the new co-op mode for MW2 which adds more for you and a friend to enjoy. These can be done by yourself, but it is highly suggested that you play them along with a friend. The Spec Ops is divided into five different sections each with there own challenges. The higher the difficultly you complete the challenges the more stars you get and the more stars the more sections you can play. With new missions and old re-worked ones from the first Modern Warfare it is a great game mode that brings more to the game.
MULTIPLAYER
Multiplayer is where MW2 shines bright. It's multiplayer is by far one of the best for any game and especially for the First-Person Shooter genre, plus with a new Third-Person mode it allows even more variety. There are many different modes to choose from, team deathmatch, free-for-all, capture the flag, demolition, and more. They have overhauled the perks and killstreaks so that you can truly make your own class and fighting style. The only main concerns for the multiplayer is a situation a few weeks back of hackers that destroyed the multiplayer, BUT it has been fixed and should NOT be happening again. Plus there are always the cheap people and some unbalances through the guns, but nothing that a player who gets used to his or her playing style can't handle.
Over all MW2 shines in most areas, but gets bogged down by it's short and questionable campaign. For anyone looking for a great first-person shooter and enjoys the Call of Duty games this is a great selection. If you are only looking for story rent the game if you want the multiplayer expierence that it is a must buy.
