Another great series title with world class GFX & game play, and a Jr High dropout story line.
Raspberry Smoothie: GFX, sound and game play remain at the top of the linear scripted shooter heap. IW is to be congratulated for level design (especially the Favela and suburban DC/Virginia levels. What a welcome break from the usual warehouses and offices that infest modern FPSers. By most accounts…………multiplayer (not participated in by this reviewer) is far better than anticipated; not nearly the end of PC gaming as predicted by many. The inclusion of the solo or coop Spec Ops Missions is most welcome and extends the replay value of SP and LAN or similar coop play.
Raw Pork Swirl Smoothie: In the fine tradition of Far Cry 2, and the GRAW series, and RE 5-Infinity Ward for unfathomable reasons has crafted a game plot that would rate an E in most 8th grade Composition classes. Modern Warfare? How'd the Russians get to be the bad guys, instead of the Facist Jihadis's the US finds itself embroiled with for 8 or more years? Besides the horrendous airport level, obviously created solely for shock and controversy value, the premise of the entire plot does not make good comic book material. I fear this is another coffin nail in what used to be the flagship gaming platform before developers surrendered to the juvenile console demographic that seems to be driving gaming nowadays. Then there's the $10.00 surcharge for MW2, over other recent FPS titles and the REALLY lengthy 7 hours of gameplay the SP campaign provides. Nice value IW! Thanks. How about the lack of an SDK………..meaning NO MODS, or longevity for the SP enthusiast community.
In the end………….this is the best and worst of the COD series. Thanks IW!
