Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the eighth main installment in the series, lives up to it's expectations - expectations to be exactly the same as previous installments, that is. From it's four hour long campaign to it's mediocre multiplayer mode, Modern Warfare 3 totally lacks innovation. That's not to say that the game doesn't have its moments. As with any Call of Duty game, that first online match, or that first level of the campaign feels fantastic! But is it because of the fun of the game? I think not. The series is very good at making each installment look or feel very different from the others, which is one of the reasons that each new release gets so much hype. This is why those first few hours of gameplay are so great; because it feels new. But that effect only lasts so long. After a few hours of gameplay, you start to get used to it. Once you get used to it, all of these realizations occur, such as the fact that they've added almost no additions to this game. It's just the last Infinity Ward game with some more polish and three to four more guns and maps. Sure, the campaign is different, but it's not even half as long, and it lacks innovative mechanics. Honestly, where is the innovation? Where is the effort? Sure, they've added survival, which would really be okay if it were a stand alone arcade game. It's just not worth the money. It seems as though Infinity Ward has given up. At least Treyarch has made attempts at innovation with Black Ops, such as an original campaign, zombies mode, and actual interactive multiplayer maps. All in all, I have to go with my gut on this one. I give Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 a 6.5 out of 10.
