CoD series Review

User Rating: 7.5 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS3
I have played call of duty since the very beginning way back when in 2003. The first game was probably the best of the series, it still sets the standard for first person shooters, the Battlefields and Medal of Honors were there, but lacked the intensity of running up the beaches to red square in the Russian campaign; watching your comrades get mowed down by mg42 fire. The expansion(United Offensive) came out in September 2004 and proved to be just as popular and creative as the first.
Call of Duty 2 was released in October of 2005 and within a year had sold 1.4 million copies making it one of the most popular games of 2005. The graphics, storyline and game play were all brilliant and the game scored near perfect scores with the critics.
CoD 3 sold well and the reviews were "great" most players;however, felt that they were playing CoD 2, there was no new feeling about it, just s.s.d.d.
After CoD 3 came a Modern Warfare. It was a breath of fresh air, now players could experience what it was like to be out there today instead of 60 years ago. Nearly every critic was quick to give the game a 90% or better. In 2 years the game sold over 13 million copies placing it on the best selling games of all time list.
Then came CoD World at War, it returned the series to its WWII roots, but with a twist- the Pacific Theater. World at War was developed by Treyarch and had a distinctly different feel than any of the previous in the series. Treyarch's unique alternate game play of Nazi Zombies, multiplayer and campaign made the game an instant success, as of 2009 selling 11 million copies worldwide. Critics gave the game a slightly lower rating than other titles in the series.
Infinity Ward created the next installment in the main series: Modern Warfare 2. The campaign's twists and turns and Spec Ops makes the game fun all even without the online experience. However, the multiplayer aspect was the selling point of the game and within 24 hours of its release nearly 5 million copies were sold worldwide. The campaign was comparable to a movie, from climbing up a mountain using ice picks to the controversial Russian airport massacre("No Russian"). Again the critics scored the game near-perfect. To date MW2 has sold over 10 million copies.
Call of Duty was given back to Treyarch. CoD: Black Ops is set during the Cold War. Players are thrown into a spec. ops unit that travels all over the world from an attempted assassination of Fidel Castro to a concentration camp in Russia. Nazi Zombies is now just Zombies, at the beginning only 2 maps were available "Five" and "Kino der Toten" and an arcade-style game. Later several new maps were released and all the old maps were available to download. The multiplayer again was the selling point and many players became involved with Game Battles(competitive gaming). The game sold over 25 million copies worldwide, earning over 1 billion dollars.
The latest installment is Modern Warfare 3. It has the most memorable campaign of the series. Spec ops is as fun as ever with the addition of survival mode, which takes the place of zombies. Multiplayer is a combination of Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. Many players feel that it is just another CoD and some are even changing to the Battlefield series for something new. The game is seriously flawed, and until it is fixed Activision is losing sales to other shooters. Most players feel that the weapons are overpowered and could stand a damage decrease. All in all the series is one of the most successful ever and players look forward to what will happen next.
