Stop and start gunplay further ruined by it's broken-ness.
Fast forward a few months and I get hold of a rental copy (having run out of other things to rent), did the game meet up to my already low expectations?
Big N for Nope.
In all fairness I've never liked historical shooters so the game was already on the backfoot before I had even loaded it up. One dismal trawl through the stop-start put-put-put shooty first level and I'm no more convinced otherwise. The game finally came alive for me during the second level during the airfield / tank section but straight after that CoD:WaW did something pretty unforgivable for a AAA title... it soiled it's pants.
I got to the end of the second level, the truimphant music played, some of my AI buddies ran over to a quiet part of the map, no doubt waiting for my arrival and some juicy plot exposition.. except that nothing happened. My war buddies just stared blankly at me, minutes went by, the silence was just getting awkward now. I glanced around and noticed some others from my squad ducking behind cover dodging bullets that weren't there. Then I noticed on my radar, a green dot way way way off from the centre. I followed it.
Back I went, back through the map, back to when the tanks appeared and there was the problem. A member of my team had melded into a tank, he couldn't get free. Seeing as I was playing on n00b difficulty (I didn't want to waste any more time on this game than I had to) I couldn't even put him out of his misery so I could finish the damn level. I tried to restart from the previous checkpoint, same thing happened. All I could do was restart the level from scratch. "Screw that" I thought, out came the game and back in the sleeve, only 5GS earned, balls to it.
And so that was the end of my WAW days, back to Modern Warfare for me with an eye on Modern Warefare 2.
