Wars never been so much fun; but buy a mouse retrogames

A mouse, a mouse my armoured infantry for a mouse. If you can track down a Megadrive mouse before playing this, do!

Cannon Fodder is a game of skill, the likes of which is rarely seen today. Graphics haven't aged too well, the music goes varies from manically upbeat to introspective and though provoking.

And the hill that turns into a graveyard that the recruits run by is probably more disturbing than any amount of videogame violence, however realistic.

The games sense of humour runs from amoral cartoon destruct to close to the nerve real life commentary (the Home / Away scoreboard that keeps counts of killed enemies soldiers and your own would be unforgivable if it didn't have so many parallels to what squadies do during wars to keep busy).

And as for difficulty the game is ROCK HARD. Level eight feels like the gaming equivalent of driving as fast as possible into a brick wall; the mission is meatgrinder.

Control wise no amount of whining about the lack of mouse will hide the fact that if you'd thought out a plan more carefully you'd have gotten through the level we fewer men send to a hill in boxes, though that said quicker reactions would make some of the gameplay more forgiveable.

An essential play, but completely unsuitable for casual gamers - this really is war.
