A fantastic port!

Cannon Fodder was a fine game and one of the best Amiga games ever made. It's made countless appearances on other consoles, but now it comes onto the Game Boy Color. Amazingly the game still contains the high addicitive gameplay and it's tongue in cheek humour. Basically, nothing is lost over the transition from Amiga to Game Boy Color. There are things I would have liked to have including breaking your squad of men up into two groups and taking a more stragetic route through the game. As it stands though, you control two men at a time through each level and is accessible enough by keeping things simple. The cursor is controlled with the D-Pad and you who have the basic issues of moving the characters to and fro and shooting. Using a grenade is a little more awkward as you have to throw them while shooting. It's not much of a problem and you quickly get used to it. While things are simple, things never get boring. Fantastically, the game is addictive and complusive and has that great one more go factor. The game offers a fairly good challenge throughout and constantly keeps you on your toes.

The graphics are great. The whole game has a great presentation of visuals and audios. The game menu is rendered 3-D and even the opening sequence is a fully functioning FMV with a great, if distorted, song. The visuals are very basic, yet you can easily identify your men and differeniate enemies. However, if you're playing this on the GBC the screen is horrendously dark. Thankfully, we have the GBA SP so it's not that bad. Though people with only the GBC may have trouble seeing the graphics to their full extent.

The lifespan is between 20-25 hours.

Cannon Fodder is a perfect handheld game. It's great to play for five minutes or for five hours and has stonking presentation values. Essential purchase if you ask me.
