Blood, action and dirty humor mixed with classic RPG Hack and slash game play. What more could you need?

User Rating: 8.5 | Castle Crashers X360
So the infamous Castle Crashers is out now but what's the the final report on it? Well it's nothing revolutionary but a classic platformer with RPG elements and just plain funny execution make it something worth more than just a test.

Graphics - Just like Braid in someways, while not cutting edge in anyway for a side scrolling platformer the game is clean and crisp. Add to that the great art style and good use of colors and you have one great looking, albeit two demensional, game.

Controls - These are just the way they should be, simple and responsive. Your basic attack and jump buttons mixed with the easy to cast spells equate to a simple mix of button mashing that has a great impact in play. While there isn't much to this old school hack n' slash, what it does have it has by the ton.

Story - Classic save the kingdom and rescue the princess story but with it's addition of comedy it's far more enjoyable. Nothing complex here at all.

Overall - It's been awhile since a good ol' fashioned hack and slash has come around that was well done, or at least this well done. There is a basic formula to this type of game, action and tons of it. To enhance it add some dimension to the combat and some blood, touch it up with a wide character selection and finish with coop. That's the recipe to do this right, which Behemoth games followed to a T. Castle Crashers is fun for hours just based on it's primary gameplay, hack up bad guys, level up and become more powerful. This is only enhanced by adding more people to the game, either locally or over xbox live. Coop always makes a game more fun when it's done right, the sad thing is that this little 2D Live Arcade title does it better than Too Human or Mercenaries 2. Coop goes up to four players and only gets more hectic and chaotic as you get deeper into the game. It's more enjoyable than many of the full priced titles coming out lately, still it's not hard to see that some may find it's formula of hack, slash, level and repeat just a little too bland to tolerate for the long haul. While this could be true though it's worth a check and in all reality worth buying, the low price compared to so many games coming out lately is a good boost up on it's worth scale too.
