No where near 2D quality

User Rating: 6.7 | Castlevania PS2
The game basically tries its best to bring justice to the Castlevania franchise along with giving the same feel as recent games, but it tries to the point where it seems to lose sight of the essence of it all.

What i mean by that is basically while it get's certain aspects right, there are alot more aspects that lose sight of the fun. The first and biggest problem is that the level design is boring as hell. By boring as hell i mean nearly every level is re used or looks too damn familiar. While recent Castlevania games have encouraged exploration and always gives you whole new areas, this one sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

You run from area to area slaying the same enemies (some form of skeleton) and keep doing it until you find the right area or boss battle. While many Castlevania games have given plenty of exploration and didn't feel too linear, this one does because of the surroundings so you may grow tired of seeing the same hallways over and over again (especially the same looking enemies).

Not to say this is a bad game, the game really exceeds at translating the power of the 2D whip into a 3D game. Not to mention the whole storyline is more in feel of the original Castlevania games as opposed to the other 3D incarnation (with skeletons on motorcycles). Not to mention the music, though not as great as Symphony of the Night (though what is) isn't a bad addition to it.

If the creators had spent as much time with the storyline, character design, and gameplay this game would've turned out much better. Especially for people who want to explore every nook and cranny without looking at the same looking areas over and over again.
