SoTN gave Castlevania a whole new dimension!

User Rating: 9 | Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku (PSOne Books) PS
Gameplay = 9/10
From the beginning of this game, you will see how SoTN changed a little in gameplay from the original Castlevania's, but that little thing gave a new dimension to the game.
The addition of an RPG element into the game (like the option to equip many different weapons, armors, items... etc.) gave the game a lot of depth. Where you can go and try to find the best weapons and armors in the castle.
Also the game offer certain abilities and powers that make you go deeper in the castle and unlock certain area's on the map. Yes, there is a map! A very good addition as well.
For the controls, it's a smooth layout, especially for a 2D adventure. You won't face problems with the controls throughout the game.

Story = 9/10
For the story, you don't play with a Belmont like always, but you actually play as Alucard. Deep in the game, you will see why him. (Spoilers if told here.)
A great story and a great adventure. You will definitely won't forget it anytime soon.
(I don't write much on the story side to avoid spoilers.)

Graphics = 9/10
For a 2D game, the graphics are very detailed. Well animated characters and monsters, very attractive backgrounds, and very good effects for a 2D game on the PSX system.

Sound & Music = 8/10
Sounds and Music are pretty good here. Also the voice acting is a well done job. Many area's through the castle and each area has it's own music and sounds. But nothing to carry over afterwards.

Lasting = 10/10
Many weapons, abilities, items, armors,... etc to collect. Also many area's to get on the map. And after all that, where you think it's over... a whole new adventure begins! It won't finish early and it's worth playing over and over again. So do expect a lengthy adventure!

Overall = 9/10
The game took a winning formula and made it even better. One of the best games on the PSX and considered by many as the best Castlevania. Simply Amazing!
