A fantastic port of a classic game we never played.

User Rating: 9.5 | Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles PSP
If you're a Castlevania nut like I am, you probably know about a game in the series that we never saw localized in the States. Yet, it has gained quite a cult following through imports, word-of-mouth and the mention of Richter Belmont. Many considered it to be one of the best Castlevania games of its time. And now, for the first time ever, Konami has brought it stateside in the form of a remake for the PSP.

The remake is an excellent rendition of Rondo of Blood. The graphics have undergone a major overhaul in the form of crisp 3D graphics. Richter, Maria and everyone else all have new designs that connect them to Symphony of the Night and they look fantastic. It's a gorgeous effort in reimagining a classic Castlevania title that we never got to play during the 90s. Despite the new look, the game is a no-frills port of Rondo of Blood with added cutscenes, some tweaks in gameplay and other neat surprises.

For those who appreciate the remake yet still long for the original port of the PC Engine classic, worry not. That game is included in this package as an unlockable bonus. Yep, you heard me right. But I'm not done yet! In addition to that, you can also unlock Symphony of the Night as well. It's a direct port of the PlayStation game with a new script and new voice actors portraying the character roles.

If you're a Castlevania fan, I don't even need to tell you to buy this game for your collection, because it isn't complete without it. If you're not a Castlevania fan, I encourage you to give it a try. It might make you a fan of the series, and even if it doesn't, you'll still get your money's worth.
