Chaos Wars is a JRPG crossover delight, and enjoyable despite it's faults.

I know I'm not the first to say this game isn't perfect, but whatever. First off, it has an abysmal english dub. Seriously, the CEO literally got his family and friends to do the voices for the game! I'm glad they let you switch to the japanese voice cast, and thank goodness they only dubbed the cutscenes. But still, the english voices are good for something to make fun of. At certain times, you can't tell how the characters are feeling, or how old they are! Now that that's out of the way, I can also say that I'm not too attached to the main character, Hyoma Kusaka. He's just a typical high school student looking to ditch class. Thankfully, there are a lot of much cooler characters(there's a ghost with a guitar!). Now for why I can't bring myself to hate this game. It has dozens of cool characters from games like Spectral Force, Spectral Souls, Growlanser, Shadow Hearts, Shinsengumi Gunrouden, and Gungrave that more than make up for the shallow protagonist. Characters are drawn chibi-anime style(with big heads and small bodies), which adds to the charm of this game. The story's not overly complex, but it's not bad either. Basically, warriors from many different worlds are sent to a fantasy world called Endia with no known way to get back home. Hyoma, along his friends from school, and the Gate Master, Rin Sunroad, recruit other outsiders(known as Knights to the citizens of Endia) to find a way back. The gameplay is able somewhat simple, and battles are easy even if you're not that much into SRPGs. Characters can equip weapons, attack techniques, and magic, and instead of earning experience points, individual stats increase, just like in Final Fantasy II. Unfortunately, it can be very easy to win battles due to the spead of increasing stats. But it's still fun. In the end, Chaos Wars may not be perfect, but it's still a JRPG crossover delight that's fun to play. -Dan B. Jr.
Concept 8.5: An accessible SRPG with characters from different japanese games.
Graphics 8.5: A simple, charming 2D look with chibi-anime-style character designs.
Sound 7: Great background music, but the english dub is terrible and unfinished.
Playability 8: Easier than other SRPGs like Fire Emblem and Disgaea.
Entertainment 8: A fun game, even with faults.
Replay Value 8.5: You'll probably go back to this game just for the gameplay and to mock the english dub.
Overall Score: 8.5 out of 10.
