Not ideal to everyone on a stealth game it can offer a decent challenge on gameplay with some Metal Gear Solid elements

User Rating: 7 | Chicken Run PS

Chicken Run is one of those films that make a great example on how stop-motion animated films should be made plus made by Aardman Animations that made Wallace and Gromit. A few months after the film was released a video game was released a few months later, I do remember playing the demo for this when I first got my PS1 console for it; Just like in the film you play as Ginger and helping her flock make a break for freedom while avoiding the evil Mrs. Tweedy and her oafish husband, who wants to turn them into chicken pies. However Run is based on an actual World War II incident where POWs attempted to escape from a Nazi prison camp if you've seen The Great Escape it gives you an example on how they escaped the prison war camps.

What some people may notice with it being a game based on escaping a prison war camp it tries to act like a Metal Gear Solid title on terms of gameplay, you'll noticed that the bottom right screen has a Soliton Radar where can see which way the guard dogs are going while patrolling the chicken farm, if you have sprouts you can throw them at dogs to confuse them but if you get caught you'll be sent back to where you left from one of the hut barracks you came out of or in a different area like Tweedy's house. Like in the film you'll need to gather and collect certain parts to making items like a pair of scissors or a shovel but you'll also need to gather items to make contraptions on ways to escape. The contraptions you make are all mini games based on how many chickens that manages to escape under a time limit more you free you'll get a Bronze, Silver or Gold Medal depending on how many you rescue. However if you are still gathering items and have them in your inventory and if you get caught by either Mr or Mrs Tweedy or even a dog you'll lose an item that you'll have in your inventory and you would have to go all the way back to where you found it from.

When leaning to a corner, the camera shifts to his front for dramatic effect and to enable sight down barracks this does make a great touch on a stealth adventure game but instead it has chickens, you can sneak quietly if you slowly move the analog stick to move around yet you can also hide in a garden gnome or a wellington boot in certain parts of the game just like the cardboard box technique in Metal Gear Solid. There are a few logic puzzles to solve throughout the game but most of them sound easy to do but there's the odd few that require a little thinking before doing this puzzle but seems straight forward. However the camera system is the biggest problem that makes the game both a little frustrating on gameplay and trouble seeing where the nearest exit or guard dogs are nearby but you can use the right analog stick to move the camera around but this still can be a little annoying to have.

Through each of the levels are timed but it's not anything serious it can take you six hours or less to get through the game but collecting everything may take a little longer, you do also get to play as Rocky, Nick and Fletcher. One half the game can be enjoyable to play if you like stealth type games but the other half is pretty much mini games which can be a little frustrating on getting a good score within a time limit but it can still offer on being a fun game including a really good soundtrack which doesn't sound similar to the movie but sounds really good at the same time. It might not appeal to everyone out there including people who are a fan of the movie but it can offer a good challenge at least but not a disappointing one.
