Trigger fans were disappointed and so that got in the way of them seeing this incredible and beautiful experience.
But enough about Chrono Trigger, onto this game. Chrono Cross is about a series of mysterious events in a small archipelago in the same world that the previous game took place in. Rather than being about time-travel it focuses on the effect a person has on the world and the possibilities that are destroyed and create. The game brilliantly shows this and has a beautiful and engaging story (though it is a little convoluted and could be better explained). On the topic of story it has 40 playable characters which one would think would destroy a game, giving no depth of character. On the other hand this gives the game life, all the characters have great stories which interact beautifully with the happenings of the other world.
The turn-based combat is also excellent, it definitely gives it strategy rather than being the standard mash-attack-and-best-spells-till-they-die technique (take a lesson from your small budgeted section Square). In addition the innate system works in tandem with the many characters allowing you to strategically pick your characters for each battle based on innate and stats.
If I have a complaint about this game its that you play more as Lynx than serge but that isn't really a problem since neither of them say much and Lynx is the most badass looking character to ever grace JRPGs.
The game also involves lots of sh*t with dragons so I'm sold.
If you like a good story and a game with heart than this game is for you. If you're a Chrono Trigger fan who was disappointed its because you're either a c*nt or because you need to see past it being a sequel to CT because its not, it simply take place in the same universe. And if you're still waiting for a new game thats as good as CT you're pretty much f*cked because new gaming is so shallow and effortless that it WON'T HAPPEN!!
