Review: Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger is a classic RPG that can be found on the SNES on the original Playstation under the title Final Fantasy Chronicles.

Story:
You wake up to the sound of the town bell, and you remember that today is the day of the Millennial Fair, a fair to celebrate the coming of the new millennium. You rush out of the house to go see your child hood friend's display at the fair, when you run into a beautiful girl whom asks you show her around. But when you get to your friends display all the rules of time will be warped.

Graphics:
The graphics and character design was done by Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragonball Z, and in keeping with the high quality graphics we are used to expecting from Square games, the graphics are some of the best you will ever see on the SNES right down to the last detail. Each character is unique (or was at the time) different and a mix of characters you would not expect. The animations are crisp and fluid and something to be enjoyed.

Music:
As will as with most Square titles the music is grand, fitting, and very memorable. The Sounds are dead on, and each and every sound detail has been accounted for and sounds like it should. Overall though this is probably one of the best sounds tracks out there for any game, and can be enjoyed one its own.

Control:
If you have played any of the final fantasy games than you know what to expect of the control scheme of Chrono trigger, there are a few differences though, like a run button, and being able to run your character around fights if you so choose, and if I am not mistaken Chrono Trigger was only the second game to feature that option.

Game play: What made Chrono trigger unique in terms of game play was that it played like a wonderful mix of the Square classics Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy, with it's own unique (for it's time) magic system, each character has their own techniques, and can only learn one type of magic, that when combined with their fighting techniques allows you to experiment with different combos and techniques, and on top of that characters could mix their magic or skills together to perform more powerful attacks or spells.

Design:
This game features one of the best stories ever to be featured in any game, the story spans over space and time, and what is more this was one of the first RPG to feature multiple endings, but the game didn't leave you with one or two endings, no Chrono Trigger featured 10+ endings to unlock and find there is rumored to be at least 15 possible endings, all of which range from the funny to the ironic to the obligatory happy ending. And each stage looks and feels unique and fresh crafted with high detail.

This is one of my all time favorite games, so much so that I still feel that there aren't too many games let alone RPG's in this generation that even come close to the quality of Chrono Trigger, this game is an absolute must own for any gamer, and we all owe it to ourselves to play this game

Chrono Trigger:

Pros:
Gorgeous graphics
Amazing story
Good mix of allies
Great sound and voices
New and Fresh stages
10+ endings

Cons:
If you don't like RPG's you probably will not like this game but it might convert you
