Great value SimCity substitute without the technical issues or hype

User Rating: 9 | Cities in Motion 2 PC
Ok. I'm a big fan of these games ever since I used to play Railroad Tycoon back in the day, but I was also looking for something that could deliver some of the functionality of SimCity, but was cheaper and less prone to technical glitches.

Cities in Motion 2 delivers on so many levels. The city scenarios are vast and evolve over time depending on how the public transport is configured. You can literally spend hours setting up bus routes, watching them pick up passengers, and them tweaking them to make them better. Added to this there's various challenges to take on, which adds to the fun.

The graphics are superb. If you what to look at the whole city you can, but if you want to zoom down to see an individual person, you can do that too at the spin of the mouse wheel. You can also adjust the perspective from a top-down view, to viewing the cityscape at ground level (and all the views in between). There's also various building overlays which give information for developing the public transport strategy.

The user interface works logically. Its relatively easy to master the basics and then the depth of customisation will keep you occupied for hours, getting the stops in the right place, integrating routes with other routes and then syncing up the timetables. Bus and trams are easy to master, but I'm still struggling with the metro which is fiddly to use - so a bit of thumbs down.
In terms of reliability, this is one of the most stable pieces of software I've used in a long time. It hasn't stalled or crashed on me once, despite it running some pretty complicated routes around a giant cityscape. I have however yet to explore all the functionality like multiplayer mode, so can't comment on that.

Worth adding to your collection and excellent value for money.
