This could have been an AWSOME game, but it just fell short. Still, it's woth a try, and can be quite fun at times.

When I first saw this game I thought it would be an instant classic, the story seemed compelling, the gameplay looked like Resident Evil (one of my favorites), and it looked different enough to be very interesting. When Gamespot rated it in the 6's I was shocked and determined to play it anyway. I found the game to be quite fun, and I was entertained through the entire game, but it still wasn't what I had hoped. The first thing I found out about the game is that the controls were very hard to get used to. It took me quite a while to get the hang of them and even when I finished I still couldn't get the aiming down as well as I would have liked. This can be a quick killer of a game, because if you can't play it, it isn't fun. It wasn't hard enough to keep me from playing, but it was enough to keep me annoyed through the whole thing. The graphics were not as top notch as I would have hoped, things seemed a little rough, and at times I had a hard time seeing what I was supposed to be doing or where the enemies were, I could hear them, but I couldn't find them. The sound effects in this case were useful, because you knew something was there because of the noise it made, even if you couldn't see it. The sound effects weren't special, but they were important. This, added to a camera that always seemed to be somewhere other than where I wanted it, killed me quite often. The outside weather effects, including the drops on the screen, were awsome and one of the best parts of the game. Unfortunately it wasn't enough. The save system in the game was not as effective as I liked, you never knew when or where you would be able to save, and since there were no maps you could wander for quite a while before you found what you needed, or worse you died and had to do it all over again. There were some areas I never explored because it was too hard to get to them and they didn't seem important. I don't like missing things, but I don't like repeating things over and over again, and after one or two times of that I quit exploring and went for the obvious goals. Once I finished the game I also had no desire to go back and play again to try and find new stuff, I don't know if there was much, and it didn't seem worth the effort. OK, so now that I'm done bashing I'll tell you what I liked. The game was fun, I wanted to find out what was going to happen next, and that kept me going even when I was frustrated. The characters and the story were interesting enough to me to keep me helping them and moving the story along. Some of the effects in the game were really great and worth playing just to see them. The rolling ship was new in my experience and made that part of the game pretty fun. Makes the zombie head shot a whole new problem to solve. The dialogue was good, not totally stupid as some games I've seen, and I even laughed a few times. The game was fairly creepy, though not as good as some out there, I never got the crawling heebie jeebies like I did in Doom3. The game finished quickly, I'm not even sure I spend ten hours on it, and the ending was short and uneventfull, kind of a let down after everything you went through to get there. Overall, the game is predictable and short, but reasonably fun to play, don't skip it, it's worth the play time, but I suggest you rent it so you wont feel too bad when your done.
