Cold Fear is a survivor horror game that is set in this big vessel that is near Russia. The game is actually fun if it wasn't for all of the rip off's from movies and games. In Cold Fear you play as Tom Hansen, this Coast Guard service member who is investigating what is going on in this vessel that is in strong winds and high storms. It starts out pretty easy, killing Russians for some reason, who must think you are some monster, they don't try to team up with you or anything. Soon enough you start killing zombies and well that's about it. You only take on a handful of different enemies and zombies is the main one. In order to actually kill the enemy, you have to smash it's head, which isn't very hard to do, but can also get tedious at times. Tom Hansen also isn't that interesting of a character and the story itself revolves around these exocels that leaked out from an experiment and took over this big vessel. It slowly effected and took over people turning them into zombies. Wow, that sounds like Resident Evil in and out. The game also has this over the shoulder red laser, which is also a rip off from Resident Evil 4. You can move while in this mode and it's good you can, because this game has a really old school camera angle that gets frustrating, so this first person view is the only way to really do anything you need to. The game has a really bad inventory system that is really tough to like, but the shooting is rather fun. The shotgun effects is great, one of the few games with nice shotgun effects. The game is set like I said, on a vessel and later in a lab/docking bay. The game has a premise much like the movie Ghost Ship. So the originality in the game is pretty bad. The voice acting in the game is pretty bad too, often dry and uninteresting. The sound effects and music is generic and uninspired. The graphics are actually quite good, although outside of the highly detailed ship, it's just bland looking waves and rain. Theres no real tense moments in the game and more than that, zombies come out of the most ridiculous places. Cold Fear's storyline isn't to bad, but it never has to many surprises that most survival horror games have. Good stories is what survival horror games can almost always come with, with bad camera angles and wonky controls. This game has all of that, just not that good of a story, which leaves this game somewhat flat. Cold Fear is a game that is pretty easy for survival horror, you don't really do or solve any puzzles, although you do have to collect certain keys for unlocking doors. The entire game is centered around door that is currently unlocked, because you have to trigger certain events before you can get to the rooftop and trigger the last part of the game. Cold Fear does have one interesting thing though. The boat and even the docks your on is pretty cool in the fact that it rocks back and forth. While your outside on the deck of the ship you have to sometimes grab onto stuff, but inside, you will rock back and forth, so you have to be extra careful when aiming at enemies. This is a great effect and is probably the best thing to say about Cold Fear. Cold Fear isn't surprisingly long or difficult and since it costs so much with so little replay value with no online or multiplayer, it's tough to recommend as a game to purchase or even rent.
