You take on the role of veteran Coast Guard Tom Hansen. Now today Tom isn't rescuing any fishermen or busting a bunch of drug runners with a boat packed with weed, today Tom is going to shoot lots and lots of Russian sailors and then shoot them again when they turn into vicious zombies.
Now what makes Cold Fear much different from Resident Evil is that the action is quite good and the controls are much more refined. You'll still stomp on plenty of heads like in Silent Hill, but now you can actually go for head shots like in an FPS or TPS. Though the nice and exciting shootouts with soldiers and zombies are great, your going to wander like a dumbass for hours on end trying to figure out just what the f*ck your supposed to do next. Sure, your main objective is specified, but what you don't know about is all the other s*it you have to do in between. Perhaps you have to go rescue some Colonel, what they don't tell you is you have to go get a key to open a door to turn a valve that drains the water out of a certain room so you can open a door into a cargo hold and shoot more zombified Ruskies and then finally find him frozen in a cryo tank.
This can all be very confusing and very time consuming so if you plan on beating the game in an evening you might want to visit Game FAQ's.
In the end, Cold Fear is a pretty good Horror/TPS that is over before it actually begins.
Did I mention the plot kinda sucks?
