Cold winter is a satisfying shooter, at the same time, the gory gameplay isn't very appreciated.

User Rating: 8 | Cold Winter PS2
Cold winter is a first person shooter that is very heavy on the gory gameplay. Blood spirts from enemies at an incredible degree and is quite satisfying, but at the same time, it's just not that necessary. This is basically what Cold winter relies on, the satisfying shooting, but the rest of the game is pretty regular. None of your weapons are that interesting and are very basic and nothing really stands out in the graphics, but they look solid, if not a bit bland though. The British voice acting plagues every voice in the game and gets annoying fast, but this is a solid shooter, plus it's on the PS2,a system that is known to be doomed when FPS games come around.

Cold winter stars Andrew Sterling, a hard as nails M16 agent from England, somewhat like James Bond, only this guy is one tough mother. The big problem with this game though, is that it's just to gory. From the bloody cutscenes to the gameplay, this is no kid friendly title, and the cussing only makes it worse.

The good news is, this is a great looking title. While the textures might be bland, the character models are great and the environments are well detailed, despite the repetitivness. I really liked how the characters animated, but I just can't stress it enough, this title has some bland graphics.

The story is really intense and a good reason to play this game, it features Andrew meeting other spies, such as an Asian spy, who he falls in love with. Many interesting characters await and some surprising turn of events that you wern't expecting. Despite all of this though, the story does have the same as all action games, a big villian, a plan to take over the world, a tough guy, and a beautiful spy. It's a lot like a Bond film come to life, but the good news is, it's re-acted quite well.

Cold winter isn't very long and only lasts about nine hours, and there isn't to much replay value, but the game can be played online with up to 16 players. The campaign can get repetitive since your weaponry isn't that unique. Expect just basic weapons, such as shotguns, machine guns, and pistols. There are som enice tweaks, such as a well rounded grenade launcher, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Cold winter does have some flaws. For starters, you have this infinite med pack that basically lets you regain your health whenever you want. It takes a few seconds, but makes this game seriously easy. Still, there are some difficult times, such as the AI that can be overwhelming at times, and the PS2 controller isn't really fit for the FPS genre, so sometimes you have to stand there while you shoot.

The sound in Cold winter is solid, just like the graphics. Although the music can be generic at times and the voice acting is abysmal, seriously everyone has this British accent that is super fake, the weapon sounds more than makes up for that.

Overall, Cold winter is a great game. It isn't perfect by any means, but it's a solid game that anyone with a PS2 and a taste for FPS games will enjoy.
