They dropped ESPN and made a better game.
As for the game play, College Hoops is a decent game with good mechanics. Besides the occasional clipping or the ball just randomly flying in a crazy direction, there aren't many problems with this game. Being that it is on the X-Box, the game has it's graphical limits. They can only make it look so good, but the developers did a good job with this game. Another small thing that caught my eye was the crowd. The crowd in 2k6 is drastically better than the lackluster two dimensional cardboard cut outs that appeared in the previous years game.
Aside from the actual basketball aspect, the legacy mode is the games best part. This mode gives you complete control of cutting players, signing scholarships, and almost anything else that you can think of. The managing portion is as fun as it is challenging and can be set to different difficulty settings to challenge your managing skills.
The game has an interesting sound track that is packed full of tecno and basketball rap songs. Another thing that I noticed was that the game is made for an older audience this year. By that I mean, they made the system of recruiting players more complex and made the overall difficulty of the game skyrocket dramatically. It is good to see that some game developers out there are still looking at the real fans, as opposed to the little kids that most games are marketed to.
In conclusion, College Hoops 2k6 is an excellent game that gives the player a sense of knowing how to run college basketball team. It looks good and sounds good too, which is a rare quality in the gaming world of today. If you are looking for a college basketball game, I would recommend any game in this series over any of the others. This game is one of the best in its series, if not the best.
