Brings back a lot of good memories, but unfair mission design makes certain missions more frustrating than fun.

Having bought this game really cheap I was pretty eager to try out my first C&C since Red Alert 2. While the core gameplay is still great, it lacks in certain directions, mainly balancing. Some units are clearly better than others while costing less resources, which sometimes makes for unbalanced gameplay. The missions in the campaigns are generally fun though with a decent amount of variety.

Some missions however, must have slipped past the QA. It's simply not much fun in facing multiple foes that can build without resources and spawns everything with heroic ranking. Honestly, my anti-vehicle tanks were getting killed by jeeps and bikes (which are not supposed to be good against tanks) even though I outnumbered them. What follows in these missions is having to build up a force at least 3 times the size of the enemy's just to be able to beat them. It takes all the fun out being tactical, when the best tactic is just to spam the hardest units you can at the enemy. In other cases, not even this will work as they have way more resources than you, and you become forced to resort to cheap tactics using a multitude of bombers to take out the key structures to complete the mission. If you are trying to use stealth, the computer of course still knows exactly where your troops are and surrounds you until you become visible again.Other times you are forced to go against what the developers intended to do with the mission just to be able to complete it.

That's not saying it's all bad of course, most of the game is pretty good. Nice looking graphics, good sound effects and cheesy live acting is still there to remember you of the good old times. It doesn't do anything new with the C&C formula, but why fix what ain't broke (except for the balance issues)?

All in all, if you are a fan of the original C&C games and are looking for a challenge, you should be able to find it here. Just beware that it is not a fair one...
