I was and still am a big fan of the C&C game universe. I played all the titles in the series and I enjoyed each and every one of them. Still, this doesn’t mean I can’t be objective. C&C3 is good…but not more than that. The graphics are done pretty well. There are a lot of nice effects, a lot of HQ textures and even with the quality set to max the game isn’t a big system hog (at least not on my pc). However, there are games out there that can put C&C3 to shame even in this department. What’s more, Modeling quality isn’t great (not too many details on the units/structures). Even if the music in C&C3 is enjoyable to say the least and the unit sounds are good (could have been better, though), the game creates no spectacular atmosphere to speak of. The movie scenes are cheap and the actors have even cheaper performances. The game-play is C&C and nothing more. Nothing new under the sun…No tactics…no resource management, no strategy planning…Just PLAIN OLD SIMPLE C&C (and this is also true for the interface, unit types etc). Judging by the fact that the AI is somewhat predictive, single player (campaign or skirmish) isn’t too entertaining. Online or LAN gaming…are COOL and it’s nice to see eight players battle it out right in the center of the map just for the fun of it. In the end, a word of advice…If you have several games you wish to buy but no money for them all…Buy C&C3 last. It’s a must have for any strategy fan but you can find better.
