Kane goes out with a whimper instead of a bang in what can only be described as a "disappointing" finale.

I really enjoyed C&C3, nearly everything I liked about that game has unfortunately not managed to survive to C&C4 - the story, the visuals, the cutscenes, and the gameplay.

I'll start with the visuals, they went RA3 style for this game. I was so disappointed when I loaded the game to see the cartoony, oversized, not really scaled vehicles. Gone was the crisp and detailed look of C&C3, something I really personally enjoyed. These large units coupled with a camera that is too close to the ground makes everything seem cramped. However, if you could zoom out you would quickly realise how small all the maps are.

C&C is know for its full-motion cutscenes and they are back. I'm glad there are and you would think for Kane's finale you would have grand cutscenes and a host of famous stars...unfortunately that is not the case. The last game they had Lando 'freakin' Calrissian...in this game they have...people I don't really know. Doesn't really matter but it does take away some of the "wow" factor of have stars appear.

The story, normally your just a commander who no one seems to know the name of ("Hi, commander", "Good work, command", "Fight hard commander") but this time they give you some backstory and a wife. A wife who ends up dead in the second campaign mission...only thing is there is really no reason to care. She appears once before and is rather annoying, so when she dies there is no emotional connection between the player and this event. It was an incredible poorly designed and weakly done little plot. As for the rest of the story, it isn't at all inspiring or really makes you want to play on. It is very disappointing and poorly done end to Kane's story.

Now the gameplay. I have no idea what EA were thinking. How they thought this was a good idea for the final C&C game concerning Kane I will never understand. They had to know that it would upset a lot of the fans by changing it so much. Initially I admit I was one of them when I heard what they were doing. However, I was also upset when THQ did the same for DoW2. Unfortunately for EA they did not win me over with their changes. It lost a lot of what made C&C games great and that is truly the most disappointing aspect of this game.

This game will probably leave many fans of the series feeling let down by EA and I count myself as one of them.
