This was bad. This was disappointing, especially considering it's predecessors.

First of all I could barely make it through the opening cinematic... I was happy to see some good actors in the CG's (even though they usually manage to scrape up a couple of actual actors for their vids) - Tim Curry is hard to go wrong with. But... then the giant Japanese robots came out, and started invading Russia... I nearly turned it off right there.

Have you ever seen the "To Kill a Mockingbird" book report spoof, which eventually digresses into a story about flying ninjas, etc? Well this felt like that. The original Red Alert and RA2 were based - loosely - on some science fiction time travel that allowed Russia to still be a super power - enough so to challenge the U.S. in "modern times". Ok, that's all well and good. But this game... was just too much ridiculous crap. It was like they threw some strange anime show in with RA and tried to make it work. They didn't

They incorporated this stupid idea of squad based units as opposed to just single ones, which I think they have started doing this just to get more units on the screen, when in actuality it's just stupid, and makes you feel out of control. The models were a little strange, and the map meshes were just plain bad.

One aspect that was actually positive was the FULL incorporation of coop into campaign play. That is a good idea. Sounds like whoever thought of that idea was immediately fired thereafter, because the good ideas stopped right there.

I don't know what else to say, you'd have to experience it yourself. The whole thing just felt wrong, very new age crap RTS, and nothing like the C&C games that have always managed to deliver a positive experience.
