I would highly recommend that any person wanting to play this game, that they play the first game before delving themse
A nice surprise whilst playing through this game is the variety of weapons that is now in the game - each mission having its own level speciality weapons shall we say? For example, at the doll factory level, you can find made up doll's lying about that explode when thrown and left for several seconds. However the guns that you can pick up in the game seem to give out less damage than the practical items that are placed in the game which I feel as being unrealistic. Another unrealistic point throughout the game was the amount that your health depletes sometimes. It seemed that sometimes a punch was worth more health than a blow to the head with a pipe.
As you progress through the game, your investigation skills are tested which does give the game a little more depth than just being a straight up horror action game. The better responses you give to Rosa – the more information you're going to get out of her. I liked this because least then the game wasn't giving you all the answers however, the lack of it being used did give off the vibe that the game was still holding your hand through the game.
Trying to move around on some occasions throughout the missions was a bit annoying. If there was maybe a box in your path that you had to move, there was no option of hitting A and happily moving it - oh no! Instead, a well timed kick had to be done. Of course, I'm making this sound easier than what it was majority of the time.
The game as a whole I found was a lot darker and scarier than the first game. The toy factory scaring me ****less personally. I did feel as if the game was concentrating more on the main characters Ethan's state of mind. The constant battle of reality and fantasy is always appearing with the use of the voices in Ethan's head, the imagining of people that are there when they really are not. The use of the black liquid substance as well throughout the game is a good way on conveying the black demon within Ethan himself.
*SPOILER ALERT*
At the last mission, Ethan gains a super power of being able to produce sonic emissions from his mouth. In some ways, I didn't approve of this and it seemed unnecessary although I can see the side of this that they wished to portray Ethan getting rid of his inner demon that he's been having the constant battle with throughout the game.
*END OF SPOILER*
The game as a whole provided a decent story throughout and did a really good job of improving on the problems that were presented during the first game. The multiplayer doesn't seem as if it is needed or fitting however this could be put down to the publishers thinking this would bring in some more new players into the game. I still think this is an underrated series to say the least and I am slightly disappointed that due to this, another game to make the series a trilogy seems unlikely.
