First party based rpg in ages that makes you put any effort/thought into battles.

Great combat mechancics. When was the last rpg where you actually had to do any thinking before or during combat in terms of using buffs, debuffs and control. Won't suit the lovers of diablo and dungeon siege type rubbish.

Not sure why every RPG has to be exactly the same to makesome people happy. More diablo clones please? I don't see how a lot of loot is vital for a rpg- It's not like the witcher had a lot of loot- why, because it made no sense having the protaganist using axes, bows, spears or whatever new crap fell out of a monsters belly. It is the same in this case.

You do fight the same enemies fairly often but this is because of the tactical side of fighting which means you need to know what skills the different enemies have so 12 types of enemies per faction times 4-5 skills per enemy is a hell of a lot to keep track of. If there was a greater number of enemies it would be impossible. Again it's not a hack and slash rpg where enemies have 1 or 2 things skills they use.

The strategic choices in terms of what skills, weapon and attributes to upgrade are far deeper than deciding which party member to use yet get hardly a mention.

If you like tactical fighting this game you'll enjoy the game despite the flaws. Targetting problems really aren't much of an issue considering you can use pause and path finding issues can be avoided by not being dumb like having your fighter block the door so none of your other characters can get past him to fight. The path finding issues are caused because you are supposed to use placing of your characters in a tactical manner - good luck keeping enemies from your mage in Dragon Age for example.

Probably not worth buying the game at its current price but if a gold pack comes along with campaigns for the other factions plus a couple of patches and this is your kind of game don't let the expert reviewer giving it a 5 put you off. Hell these people gave dragon age 2 an 8 and oblivion 9. something.
