I hope the creator of Contra is sitting on of piles of money in their huge mansion w/ hot babes by their side!

This game has followed me throughout my life. I've played it for a good chunk of it. I remember getting real frustrated with the game when I was younger. Then came the magic of the Galoob Game Genie. With unlimited lives, I finally got to see the ending of the game. For the longest time, I always thought the ONLY way to complete this game (and StarTropics) is with the Game Genie. How wrong I was. I later learned about the Konami Code and officially beat the game without the Game Genie then. But over recent years (about when I was 20ish...I'm 26 now at the time of this review) I worked at it and now I have officially completed the game without dying ONCE. Not that I'm trying to go for an ego boost (it does feel kind of nice, though), but whenever my brother has friends over (he's 24), and whenever I'm home, he asks me to break out Contra (for his friends that know the game, that is...) so he can have me beat the hell out of it. That said, let me just say that this game may be difficult, but there are harder games out there. Just recently, I tried to pick up Gradius for the NES, and I did play it for a few hours (it wasn't one of those "play for five minutes and a "this sucks, I'm turning it off" comes out.) and I couldn't even complete the first stgae...then I cheated by going on YouTube to see the game being played out, and the ending wasn't worth it, so I quit playing it altogether. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but the point I'm trying to make is that it's a lot more difficult than Contra.

For the late 1980s, the graphics were pretty good! I know it's the NES, and the backgrounds aren't the best, but Contra got the job done well. All of the enemies and characters are easily visible and the bosses are badass. The musical score is nice, as it has the typical Konami "pause" sound found in most games during that era, the music is also very catchy and original, and it fits each stage well. The sound effects are also well thought out. I know it's not extremely real sounding, but to those tweens who think they could have done better because all they ever play are games that have 3D animation, they need to consider that it was 1987, there WAS no XBOX 360 or PS3, there WAS no 3D considered in games (yet), and the technology for voice and realistic sound effects simply weren't there yet.

I will always love this game, and even though I've beat it time after time after time, I will still play it until the day I die. Thank you, Konami, for creating this awesome game!
