Good:
Old-school graphics and poly based characters, nostalgic of PS1 and PS2 generation games. This is only a Pro if you enjoy said graphics.
Mass customization of "mecha" characters.
Aesthetic customizations is very free, if you can understand how the game handles skins. Custom made user skins are welcomed and head parts can even have their polygons changed.
Keyboard controls are rebind-able. Also comes with Gamepad/Controller support.
Macro messages and In-game radio messages, which are preset macro messages that can only be used in PvP or PvE and also produce a sound effect from a user-chosen sound set.
In game guide, tutorial, etc. are outdated to an extent but do an effective job in teaching new players the rudimentary basics of control and combat.
Bad:
Voice chat setting is ingame, but doesn't actually work.
Game balance is terrible. Pay to win is extremely accurate in this one. Old players who have invested both cash and ingame items/currency to "tune" their robots will almost always have a huge edge on you. However, there have been attempts at rebalancing, but the effects of such are limited.
In game content: The majority of items are obtained through Garapon, which is their version of Gacha. If you aren't familiar with any of these terms, it's basically a system where there is a machine with balls inside, and in this case, the color of the ball that comes out will determine from what tier you get a prize from. Of course, the more coveted prizes will be rarer to get, and since you are going through a double RNG (random number generator) system to get one prize. At 4 dollars a spin or 16 for five spins, the price isn't exactly cheap either.
Lag is extremely noticeable, due to several factors.
1. The coding, which is explained later, causes user end framerate.
2. The small playerbase, the lack of IP restrictions on foreign players, when they have multiple servers stationed across the globe, causes a lot of server side lag due to ping being extremely high between players.
3. The servers themselves have randomly shut down on several occasions, which leads me to believe their quality is questionable.
4. There is one kind of low-latency lobby, which is <350ms. As you may imagine that is just as bad, if not worse than regular lobbies. It used to be <250ms but they changed that due to the amount of foreign players, which mind you this game has servers located in Japan, Korea, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Philippines, along with an European server that was shut down due to lack of playerbase, complained.
Ugly: (Non-gameplay related)
Coding: The coding, done in Java, has bad optimization, which means a game of this caliber will eat up a lot more CPU than it should. In PvP, it can require close to one full GB of CPU, and easily 500-800MB in lobby. The client also has tendencies to close itself if left alone for a prolonged period of time, along with sporadically freezing, then proceeding to crash. Entering your "Garage", which is the menu where you select bots, will generally cause the client to lag and become nonresponsive for a period of time, length dependent on how much stuff you have.
Resolutions: The game has recently added a widescreen feature, which if I assume correctly simply enlarges your field of view over a rectangular screen. There is not actual high-definition resolution, and changing the resolution just sort of upscales the UI and makes everything larger.
Service: The customer service is on and off. Sometimes they will get back to you within 24 hours, other times they won't get back to you at all. It's gotten worse as time has gone on, leaning towards the multiple days to the never respond side. One time I was keylogged and Customer Service was extremely helpful and responded within the first 30 or so hours. Another time, I was banned due to some shady characters sending in "botting" reports, which I appealed repeatedly over the course of my ban, with no response for a full week.
Other:
Gameplay: The gameplay is repetitive, consistent of walking, flying, and a small handful of mobility cartridges, which are options you get for leveling up your robot that switch your dash (double tap WASD) with something else. However, the gameplay may be appealing to some, if you are personally like me and don't mind the simple mechanics.
Updates: Consisting of new Garapons, occasional bug fixes, and every now and again, free to play content, generally consisting of a new currency which you play the game to get and use it to redeem tickets for specific ticket Garapons, items, or other things. There isn't many new gameplay mechanic updates, but if you don't mind the rehashing, this will be alright. Standard updates will occur during Thursdays Pacific Standard Time, midnight to 2:00am.
PvP/PvE: Cosmicbreak consists of 3 main game modes, Quest, Mission, and Arena. Arena is the PvP aspect of the game. The only updates that have occurred are several new maps, which to be fair aren't the most amazing map design. The latest map to be added is in all practicality one huge chokepoint. Missions, PvE, a somewhat loosely story driven game mode, have remained the same for a long time, with only a few short missions being added. Missions are generally done for rank points, which makes your profile increase in rank. Quests are also PvE and are the main method of acquiring in game items for tuning up. There has been no update ever since the fourth Quest was added, which is at least roughly 2 years ago now. You're going to have a hard time finding random matches for both Mission and Quest, though not impossible. It's much easier to find friends ingame and organize together to complete them. Most of the playerbase is generally in Arena.
Community: The community is 50/50, or even 30/70. There are a small handful of helpful veterans who will teach you the basics and are all around decent people to talk to. A notable minority of the players on the English server aren't even English. There are, however, notorious people who spend a large amount of time in PvP and proceed to complain or flame other players. However, there is an ignore function for such players. The rest of the community is generally there, but usually silent.
Verdict: 3/10
Putting aside my biases for this game, which involve me putting money into it and playing it with friends, this is a game I seriously would not recommend, considering the massive amount of Pay to Win, the horrible connections between a continually dwindling playerbase scattered across the globe, the lack of new content rather than the rehash of a system of rewarding players to collect coins, and the downward spiral of customer service.
