The multiplayer is simply a needless reskin of 1.6, and the 'deleted scenes' campaign mode is all-around terrible

Note: This review is only on the 'Deleted Scenes' portion of this game. If you are interested in multiplayer then head on over to the Counterstrike 1.6 reviews. 1.6 is identical to CZ except that it has a much larger playerbase. I cannot recommend CZ for multiplayer.

The campaign that was ultimately scrapped comes bundled with the game anyways, with the appropriate title of 'deleted scenes'. This disgusting excuse of a campaign is disastrous on all levels.

First of all, the graphics are absolute s*** for a 2004 release. They are worse than Half Life 1 graphics.

Secondly, the gunplay is worse than in multiplayer. It feels less responsive, and damage is so messed up. A headshot does not instant kill, nor does a close range shotgun blast.

Thirdly, level design is a mess. It's basically a corridor shooter where you must progress forward at all times. Enemies are scripted to 'appear' so that you will be surprised by a guy with a machete running at you from behind, from a room that you JUST cleared. Also, it can be confusing just to find WHERE you are supposed to go, because there are often 'dead ends' where the ladder or box you need to boost yourself onwards is hidden behind something you wouldn't guess. You'll have to check youtube walkthroughs to understand one of these stupid design choices at some point, guaranteed.

Now onto the enemies: In Africa, you will run into suicide bombers that run at you (a single marine) to explode themselves. In the South American jungles, you will run into suicide bombers that charge at you to explode themselves. This is so politically and geographically incorrect, it makes me believe that the devs are children.

Lastly, the game characteristics are as moronic as they come. Many missions place you as a tech specialist, with fancy Spy gadgets ranging from radios and remote mines, to tiny cameras. The implementation of these devices makes them completely trivial. They can only be used in a 'hotspot', in which their symbol flashes in the left hand corner. Then, it's simply equiping them and pressing left mouse button. There is zero thought or skill involved.

This game is terrible, which is a shame because Counter-Strike is a constant staple for FPS gaming, and it deserves a much better campaign than turtle rock has provided.
