The future of the online first-person-shooter is here and it has a familiar name.

User Rating: 9.4 | Counter-Strike: Source PC
I would be surprised if there are any people who consider themselves to be PC gamers who haven't either seen extensive coverage of or played the original half-life mod counterstrike. Over the course of the last few years it has become synonymous with the genre of online first-person-shooters. So I'll spare everyone another history of how this mod came to overtake the original in some aspects. We'll jump right into how the Source Engine has improved this mod franchise. To start off with, Valve has done an excellent job constructing the Source engine. Although it has amazing graphics and physics, it doesn't require the latest or greatest computer and graphics card to get a reasonable level of detail. Although I would recommend having at least a mid-level system to play, you don't need to be top of the line across the board to recieve the benefits of the new engine. The gameplay itself stays pretty true to the original series. It has a little smoother feel to it, a feeling some hardcore original counterstrike fans have called floating sensation. However, after a period of time I adjusted to the difference and didn't notice it. I haven't noticed any glaring differences in how the weapons perform. Some of them seem to behave slightly differently, but nothing that couldn't be attributed to user error. Overall, I believe it is a worthy successor to the original. I look forward to the continuing development of this mod and would recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the original. To players new to the series, I would just like to make one note. Be prepared to get worked over for awhile. It takes time to learn the weapons and maps. But if you enjoy FPSs and can have some patience learning the game, it's one of the best available options out there.
