Good representation of modern day operational weapon types for a multiplayer shoot up.
CS:Source see's alot of the older maps from CS 1.6 make a comeback with a visual makeover, the skins are also back, for both teams, such as "leet crew", "GSG9" and the Seal Team Six skin. The objectives and the weapons remain the same as the original version, albeit they look much better.
CS:Source's strength is in the potential of this game to be a 15 minute affair or an all night campaign depending on the user. This makes it a flexible title to play for those with plenty of time, and those with never enough. Most modern day weapons are represented within the game, with the M4A1, AK47, MP5, Steyr TMP, FAMAS, and even the M249 SAW making an appearance alongside other sidearms, assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, grenades and flashbangs. This variety when used within a smoothly functioning team can be deadly when each weapon is used for it's intended purpose, ensuring gameplay is flexible and a player is not restricted to one weapon type alone.
CS:Source speaks alot for itself with it's huge fanbase, those some personal flaws I found in the otherwise greatly devised gameplay involved the mechanics of the AWP. When used en masse this weapon is more than capable of destroying the gameplay as for all it's physical mass it can be fired as effectively as an M4 or MP5 as far as taking a scoped sight picture goes. This unbalances the gameplay as a sniper rifle cannot be employed usually in this manner. The other is that the M249 for all of it's price in game, is unrealistically inaccurate and almost to point blank range, useless, thus writing off a possible cornerstone of a squad.
If the employment of particular weapons was limited per team (such as the class system used in Day of Defeat), such as the AWP, gameplay would be more balanced. The M249 should have it's accuracy increased and yet be limited per team. The last issue I have is that the SMG types should deal more damage at the close ranges they are usually employed at ensuring that they could be used more effectively for indoor environments and CQB scenarios.
Overall, while containing realistic elements that almost come together, CS: Source is the game for anyone looking for a casual multiplayer experience or anyone who is looking for a team based modern day shooter. It get's my thumbs up.
