MODs are where it's at...

User Rating: 8.2 | Counter-Strike: Source PC
CounterStrike: Source is definately worth the price tag, though you may not think so after firing it up for the first time. The tried and true format of the gameplay is very solid, though it gets old pretty quickly. Where this game REALLY gets it's value out of are the countless mods that the community puts out. One stands out in my mind as Zombie Horde, a server side mod that pits an outnumbered Counter Terrorist team against, well, a horde of zombie terrorists who have 500% health and can only use knives. Full gameplay mods like this coupled with straight aesthetic features can get you into the game more, though likely this will be a game that you'll go back to only on occassion when you're bored.

Graphically, the Source engine is still beautiful, despite being a year and a half / two years old. Character models are glorious and detailed and move around realistically. The physics are great and it's definately satisfying to cap some guy in the head and see him tumbling head over heels over a ledge. The weapons are modeled after real world weapons and look and sound convincing, though I must admit I've never personally seen or heard many of these up close so it's hard for me to attest to their accuracy.

Overall, CounterStrike is a good all around game. It may be hard to get into it at first, and the average skill of your opponents may be overwhelming, but it won't take long for you to jump right in there and start chalkin' up some kills
