Crash's First Racing Game Is One Of The Greatest
The game is one of the best racing games for control. It's so much easier to control then games like Mario Kart. The different weapons and tracks are great. The problem is, the game maintains a certain difficulty that only those with perfect patience can master. The times they want you to beat to earn the time relics are insane, and some of the CTR challenges (including the 1st 1) are too diffcult to get unless you come here to GameSpot and get the tips you need. The bosses are fun to race, and finally you can skip the credits. I however, usually watch them 'cause it's fun to watch the different dances.
Unlockables are so easy to find if you actually work at the game, that it makes for a feeling of accomplishment. If you've ever seen the ugly dancing Crash from "Crash Bandicoot: Warped", you'll be pleased to find out that he has been named Fake Crash and he can be unlocked in this game. The only other thing that you should get to unlock is N. Oxide. There are GameSharks that let you replace the form of a racer with the form of Oxide, but that's not really unlocking him.
The 1st Crash game to feature multiplayer breaks out strong. There are so many options, you could go on forever. As far as collecting time relics, even the most difficult times can be beaten if you manage to break all the time boxes. Unfortunately the tiem boxes have been put on rediculously-difficult-to-reach places. In each world there's at least 1 level that's harder then all the other levels in the world. Fortunately, the game let's you see the 100% ending if you collect all the gold relics. It doesn't force you to get all the platinum relics. Once again, time relics should be put as an extra feature for those of us who want to collect them all. They should not be necessary to the 100% completion of the game.
It would also be nice of you could unlock more characters for adventure mode. Like if you could add Fake Crash, Penta Penguin, N. Tropy, and maybe someone like Baby-T (from "Crash bandicoot: Warped"), you'd have 4 new characters for Adventure mode, which might introduce 2 more combinations of speed, acceleration, and handling.
These things are all easy to overlook when you consider that CTR isn't too difficult for players who are persistent and patient.
