C'mon! We gonna have some fun!
The objective of the game is pretty simple. Pick up customers and drive to their destinations as fast to earn fare before your time runs out. You can do this in two massive courses (one of these only on Dreamcast) with many, many different routes to take along the way. Basically, you drive around in drive or reverse and pick up the people with colorful circles around them (the color coordinating difficulty). Besides driving normally there's special techniques you can use to get more fare like driving really close to other cars without touching them, going airborne, and performing Crazy Dashes and Crazy Drifts. All this happens in three game modes: Time-Limit, Arcade, and Crazy Box.
This isn't how they're separated in the game, but how I separate them. Time-Limit and Arcade are how you play in the courses. With the time-limit you choose a time-limit and get as much fare as you can during. In Arcade, you get more time when you deliver people to their locations. Crazy Box is full of special courses that you have to complete certain objectives within. Crazy Box mode can take sometime to complete, but it helps you build your technique.
Besides being addictive this game also looks great. Everything looks greats. The models, the background, everything. But although it looks great, most the pedestrian models you'll see several times in one sitting. There is very little variety.
All the sounds you expect are in here: car horns, car collisions, engine noise, people yelling at your reckless driving, etc. The music is very addictive, but is very limited. You'll only hear a few tracks by The Offspring and Bad Religion.
If you still own a Dreamcast, and looking for a new game to add to your collection. Crazy Taxi's addictive game play would definitely be a good catch, if it isn't in there already.
