Crosswords DS isn't a hardcore game nor is it a casual game. It's a great cartridge made for those who love crosswords.
User Rating: 7.5 | Nintendo Crossword DS
Crosswords DS for the Nintendo DS contains over 1000 crossword puzzles as well as hundreds of word search and anagram puzzles. You can play any of the three types of puzzles in the game starting at the easy and normal difficulty settings. The more puzzles that you complete, the more puzzles you unlock with the same difficulty setting. Eventually you will be able to solve hard difficulty puzzles as well. The word search puzzles label their difficulty by size. The small word searches have fewer words than the medium size word searches and so forth. Everything in the game is done by using the touch screen and stylus. You hold the game book style and write in your answers in the crossword puzzles. You write in each letter in each individual box. The game is very accurate at recognizing the letters you want to write in. If you ever have trouble with the game recognizing certain capital letters, the game also recognizes all lower case letters as well. The presentation in the game is sleek and simple as it should be. The game has few sound effects that are crisp and fitting, but the game has no music whatsoever. Sure you may not listen to tunes while doing these puzzles in the newspaper, but some slow jazzy kind of music could have fit well. Why not put music in the game and make it optional? The crossword puzzles may be a piece of cake for crossword veterans, but those of you like myself who don't do crosswords often, will find that the game becomes pretty challenging with each new puzzle you face. Word searches don't take as much brain, just a good spotting eye. Anagrams will test your ability to take a few letters and make every word that you can possibly make with them. On the crossword puzzles if you solve the entire puzzle at a great speed the game will reward you with an A rating for that puzzle. But the game does not grade you when you don't do so well. You only get graded when you ace a puzzle. The game really could have benefited from some online capabilities. Such as puzzles for download or leader boards. Crossword DS isn't a hardcore gamer's game nor is it a casual gamer's game. It's a cartridge that is best for those that enjoy doing these kinds of puzzles. At a $20 budget price and thousands of puzzles to complete, Crossword DS is a very good deal.
