This is a very decent port of Crysis but without those amazing visuals the gameplay suffers quite a bit.
Even though the PC version looks, no exaggeration, a hundred times better I was still disappointed with these visuals, especially after how stunning Crysis 2 looked on 360. Lighting looks hideous, water like gravy & inferior draw distances but on the plus side frame rate is very stable & object pop in isn't that bad at all. Decent physics too. Toss a grenade into a hut & splinters everywhere, just like the original.
Combat has been streamlined in this version helped by the best console fps controls since Halo. I decided to play it all guns blazing because sneaking from bush to bush without that eye candy was boring as hell. Shooting feels punchier this time & guns sound better but there's a massive downside. Being Cry engine 3, you get that Crysis 2 AI which, no matter which version you played was widely panned by everyone. It nearly spoiled the game. Enemies just stand around allowing me to shoot them in the face. Downer.
Another big plus to this version is the removal of that awful flying mission near the end. That killed the pacing & the controls were dire. Nice work there Crytek, though the checkpoint system is not good throughout the game. Too few of them & the game seems harder than the original.
No multiplayer or co-op modes but tbh the original Crysis was all about the sp. Mp was an afterthought.
At £15 with no gaming PC, then this is a half decent shooter overall. Could do worse. The gameplay has aged not so well & the AI is shocking but excellent controls & better combat make it worth the cash.
