Crysis is a pleasant surprise in the sea of cliche first-person shooters.

Crysis is a game that stands out in the crowd of all other boring, repetitive and cliché shooters, even though it is NOT very original itself anyway. The real-time, fast-paced gameplay will entertain you for hours. The story is alright but it could have been much better - what makes it so good, is the way it was executed and presented. The amazing and extremely realistic graphics will make you wish that every other game looked like this one.

You will be playing as a marine, codenamed Nomad. Issued with the best weaponry and equipped with a top-notch Nanosuit which will make you feel faster, stronger and far superior than your enemies. You are sent on an island with a team of special marines like yourself. Your mission is to find out if the Korean Army (on this island) have nuclear weapons at their disposal. I won't go any further on the story from here, but I will tell you that in this game, you will end up fighting a lot more than just humans and the story will get more interesting as you go.

Moving on to the gameplay - the controls aren't anything difficult. They are easy to use, similar to most other FPS games but with using a few more keys for new and unique functions, never seen in any other shooters before.

Using the Nanosuit is just plain fun. You can switch between three different modes. Maximum Strength; it enhances your strength, allowing you to throw heavier objects further and jump very high (getting up close and personal, grabbing your enemies and then throwing them is the most fun when using this mode... hehe). Maximum Speed; makes you run a lot more faster than normally, this is great if you need to retreat from an attack. And last (but definitely not least), the Maximum Armour mode; the one you should use most of the time (it gives you additional armour for your suit making you a lot less vulnerable to enemy attacks).

The suit will also allow you to become invisible (this is called the Cloak) but it won't last forever. After a few minutes, you will run out of energy and you will need to wait for it to re-charge. Also, if you move when close to enemies, they might spot you so use the Cloak wisely.

Another cool thing about how you play the game is how you can see the character's hands and legs, making it even more realistic. The awesome physics engine will add even more to realism, allowing you two pick up pretty much anything - from big crates to small cups and even bananas. AND watching all of those objects move realistically after you throw them in the air or at your enemies. This even allows you to watch small huts fall apart, always in a different way thanks to the physics engine.

You will also get to drive some vehicles in the game. This is added to the game very nicely. Even though this game isn't about vehicles, the trucks, boats and VTOL's feel very realistic when using them and you actually feel like you're swimming in a boat, riding an armoured car or flying a heavy-combat VTOL.

Another thing I love about Crysis, is how greatly the game is balanced. While at first, the game will be quite easy, it will start getting harder every minute. Then once you learn the tactical way to kill an enemy, the game will be balanced most of the time. From time to time there will be harder moments, but overall, it should be just right for gamer who has played at least one FPS before.

Even though you got this powerful suit, you can't just go right in front of 20 soldiers because you will get killed in a matter of seconds. So you need to work out how you're going to get into a base, take out a tough enemy or just use tactics in general - this keeps the game balanced, apart from occasional "holy crap, this is crazy" boss fights.

I almost forgot to mention the multiplayer. Yes, to all of you hardcore FPS fans, Crysis has multiplayer. However, it is average and while it is fun, it just doesn't have anything new to offer to keep you playing long enough.

All of the things mentioned in this review make Crysis an easily recommendable game that is a lot of fun to play. If you have an amazing PC (no, on a "good" PC or even on a great PC, you won't be able to experience the best of this shooter's visuals) then buy this game.
