Well, if anyone here has played Pokemon Collesseum, then you'll get the idea of what the RPG element of this game is like. When I played this game at a demo booth at Best Buy, I was struck by the fact that the fighting element wasn't just something that you could pick up. This got me interested and so I bought the game. Probably the first thing that I remember thinking is that this was just going to be an arcade fight fight fight game. This wasn't the case. It did have a basic, yet well thought-out RPG element in the form of a story mode, which offers a good weekend or two of great fun. You play as a hero who wants to become a bounty hunter, as per the wishes of his dead father. You then get your "ROBO" by accident and so starts the story. You meet some interesting characters along the way, each of them say different things every day, so it's pretty atmospheric the whole way through. The game makes fun of common RPG elements like the repetitive character models that you often see in RPGS. These characters say things like "Wow, I feel like I'm talking to myself." And things like that. The actual battle component of the game is executed well. You fight in a virtual holloseum, which is a battlefield created by the fighters' minds. They then use their robos to fight in these arenas. The robos are each as individual as most of the characters who use them. You get a couple hundred unlockable parts throughout the game, which you can use to alter your robo's abilities. This makes for almost a different fight, everytime. all-in-all this game lives beyond the standards that I had for it, but still falls a little short of what I'd expect out of a good RPG. You're getting closer, nintendo! Keep trying, you'll get it!
