Dance Dance Revolution: Extreme is a great game to play and is one of the few arcade experiences left untouched by time.

Dance Dance Revolution: Extreme, also known as DDR: 8th Mix, is an installment in a long line of Bemani games from Konami. The DDR series focuses on simulated dancing. It is played by stepping on an arrow in time with an arrow scrolling on the screen.
DDR: Extreme features five difficulties: beginner, light, medium, heavy, and for some songs, oni. In the beginner difficulty, the background for each of the songs is one of a generic dancer that demonstrates the steps. Each of the songs is rated by BPM (beats per minute) and the number of feet, which is a rating of further difficulty (more feet, harder song).
DDR: Extreme has an impressive selection of tracks, ranging from techno, to hard rock, to j-pop. All together there are around 240 songs to play. Most of the songs feature some sort of vocals, but for the most part, they are japanese lyrics. Depending on the settings set by the establishment, the player gets to play an average of three songs, unless the player gets a AA rating on a song, giving him an "Extra Stage."
There are a slew of different modes to play as well. Single mode is the traditional single player outing. Versus mode is a two player event that plays exactly like Single mode. Doubles mode is a single player game but the player uses both of the dancing pads instead of one. There is also a Nonstop mode, where players can choose from various sets of songs and options. They then try to pass the songs without a break.
DDR is a skill game and requires practice to advance to the next difficulty. Dance Dance Revolution: Extreme is a great game once you take the time to regularly practice the game and have a tolerance to addicting music and awe-inspiring competition.
