Still a fun game, but a few faults.

DDR Extreme is the third DDR game to be released for the PS2. It still is fun, but it has stumbled a little bit in this third entry.

Instead of straight cut and dry free play, DDR Extreme now features a mission mode, where you have to pass a song or a portion of a song while meeting certain conditions. The first few missions are just pass the song, later songs switch the arrows around on the top of the screen, making it harder to read, other songs say you must get at least X perfects. I think it is pretty fun. It adds a new challenge. It also really challenges your DDR technical skills. Extreme also supports the eyetoy. If you have one, you can do some fun DDR mini games.

The sound is pretty good. The same of what you would expect from DDR songs. Some techno, some trance, etc. The graphics are also the same. Simple backrounds to occupy that space while you are playing a song.

This could have been just as good as any other DDR home game, but there are two things that hold it back. One: the songlist. The songlist doesn’t have the same backbone as Max or Max 2 did. Granted, it still has some good songs, like The Legend of Max and Paranoia Survivor, but there are way too many songs that aren’t very fun to dance to. A lot more than the previous two games. Songs like Believe, Do Me, and Y.M.C.A, including more. These songs just aren’t DDR music. They aren’t very fun to dance to. Second: the new grading system. The new grading system in this game keeps you from getting a AA if you get any noncombo steps. That’s right, you could get one good and the rest perfect on the legend of max and still only get an A. I think that is stupid. Why not just keep it as a percentage like they do normally at the arcade? Why shouldn’t it count if you do really well and just mess up once in the whole song? The only semi-advantage of this is that is pushes you to do better on songs.

Well, that is my review of DDR Extreme. It still is a pretty good game, but a mediocre songlist and a bad grading system hold it back from being another great DDR home game.
