Dated
User Rating: 7.8 | Dark Cloud PS2
I gotta admit that Dark Cloud was amazing...but is now dated...There are more dungeon games out there now that walk all over this one..Don't get me wrong..i really enjoyed this game at the time..but it's collecting dust in my closet.......It has the sort of "Zelda" feel to it..but probably because most of the levels are in dungeons of some sort..even forest areas feel like dungeons due to limited movement of the area....The whole idea of rebuilding villages is unique to say the least...but for a limited time.....it's fair to say that you will never have to use a walkthrough cos it's just blatantly easy......can take some time to complete if you decide to build up your weapons.....which you will have to spend copious amounts of time finding the correct items to do it with...and thats just on the pre-tense that you can be bothered...cos you'll find a weapon that kills most enemies in a couple of swipes (providing you have the correct element attached) that you won't really need to.......the fat lardy guy will never get used because he is soooo slow...and the flying one is good for getting across gaps...but mostly you will find that you are either using the main character for the sake of it or the two females as they have ranged weapon..the genie being the best with the charge attack...It's been that long since i played it i've forgotten most of their names(but you choose your own anyway)....but it does feel a bit repetetive...it's basically the same thing on each level..go in..kill the monsters find the key and get to the end of the level.....fight the boss and come out with the pieces to the village and plonk them where you want..although you do get bonuses if you put 'em in the correct place..but the village folk give you hints which may aswell put an arrow where they want it.....This game would be challenging for a first-time RPGer but for an experienced gamer this is laughable......Not sure if it was globaly but in the U.K this title was deleted (Same as Ico which is still a classic in my opinion) and all of a sudden it becomes a "cult classic" where everyone wants it and people are paying stupid amounts for it online (i.e Ebay)..WHY???
It still has the old Retro feel to it....but for sheer enjoyability why not go for the Final Fantasy series?.....miles more appeal / gameplay and no rebuilding villages!
Ok i'm being an ass....If your 7 - 12 then buy it..otherwise don't waste your money...i'll rate it high because i remember enjoying it when i played it!
