Remember when you played the first zelda game for the nes (older gamers). You start out in an area, where you see this cave, you go in the cave and this old guy says hey, its dangerous out there, take this sword and that's it. He leaves you to explore the vast world on your own, with no direction. Thats what I love so much about Dark Souls, you just go, there's no journal, there's no map marked with a red dot showing you where you go. You just go and explore and survive. Not being able to save anytime you want (ala Elder scrolls) is why I call this a survival rpg. When you die all the souls you collect stay in the spot that you died and you re-spawn at the last camp site. As long as you can get back to the spot that you died without dying you can reclaim the souls you lost, if you die before you get there they are gone for good. Ever fight in dark souls you have to take seriously, there's no such thing as button mashing low level enemies, if you are off your game they can kill you. This game is so engrossing and demanding I love it and recommend it to all the real gamers out there.
